The outlet connection was every bit as challenging as the design of the storm sewers and basin itself. The utilities, contractor, engineers, private business owners, and EWSU all had to cooperate and successfully prioritize their respective efforts in a small 20 ft. by 20 ft. space or the entire 26-acre project would have failed.
The most daunting challenge was in the basement of the Market Street Living building. Situated in an area dense with critical utilities, we encountered an air recovery well, multiple fiber-optic ducts, water mains, and high-voltage power lines. Each of these elements required meticulous planning and coordination.
Another layer of complexity came from the surrounding infrastructure. The sidewalk and streetlight placements had to be considered, and we even discovered a set of unknown railroad tracks. These unexpected elements required quick thinking and adaptability from our team, demonstrating that flexibility is one of Egis’s proven qualities.
