Anticipating and responding to the urgency of an infrastructure crisis
The road tunnels in Brussels, the oldest of which were built more than 60 years ago, required major renovation to meet the growing challenges associated with their age. In 2016, a major incident - the collapse of concrete in a tunnel - accelerated the implementation of a Multi-Year Investment Plan (MIP), which has now been approved by the regional government.
This plan aims to prioritise the rehabilitation of the longest and most complex structures by 2030. However, budgetary and logistical constraints have led to a phased approach by type of renovation (ventilation, electricity, ceilings, etc.), which requires careful coordination. As a long-standing partner, Egis was asked to structure, plan and carry out these renovations over time (and sometimes in emergencies), while ensuring minimal disruption to traffic and users.
