Egis has been awarded two contracts to provide consultancy and supervision of the design and build of the electrification and rehabilitation works for section 3 Poieni – Aleșd and section 4 Aleșd- Frontiera Ungaria of Cluj Napoca- Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway line.
At the beginning of April, Egis expanded its rail services in Romania by signing two consultancy and supervision contracts with the National Railway Company ”C.F.R.”- S.A.. The two contracts, totalling 8.5 million Euro, have a duration of 103 months, of which 42 months are dedicated to the design and build period, and the remaining for the guarantee period.
The Cluj Napoca - Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway line will improve Romania's economic competitiveness through developing sustainable transport infrastructure that facilitates economic integration in the EU, develops the internal market, and will improve connectivity to the European railway network. The project will increase travel speeds up to 160km/h for passengers (120 km/h for cargo transport), improve travel conditions and provide higher levels of safety. The modernization works will also ensure interoperability through introduction of the ITS (intelligent transport system), facilities for people with disabilities, improved conditions in stations for transport users and increased transit capacity.
For the 100km sections between Poieni - Aleșd – Frontiera Ungaria, Egis’ role is to supervise and coordinate contractors’ design and build activities up to the final acceptance of the project. The complex activities to be supervised include the detailed design and construction permit design as well as replacement and construction of bridges and culverts, restoration of rail embankments, upgrading railway stations and stops, upgrading electrification and telecommunication and signalling works.
