Egis, as part of a joint venture with Hatch and Systra, has been selected as the design partner for the Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) Civil and Utilities Works project in Ontario. The appointment follows Metrolinx’s selection of the Hamilton LRT Civil & Utilities Alliance as development partner for the project.
Under the Alliance structure, Metrolinx is the project owner, Aecon is the construction partner responsible for delivery, and the Hatch–Egis–Systra joint venture will provide design services for the civil and utilities scope.
The alliance has entered into a development phase agreement with Metrolinx to collaboratively define scope, cost and schedule for various elements of the project. The development phase is expected to span approximately 18 to 24 months and will be followed by a construction implementation phase.
The Hamilton LRT project will deliver approximately 14 kilometres of light rail transit service through Hamilton’s downtown core, connecting McMaster University to Eastgate. The planned 17‑stop corridor will link key destinations and institutions and integrate with GO Transit and Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus services.
Through its role in the design joint venture, Egis will contribute multidisciplinary expertise in transit infrastructure, civil engineering and utilities design. The project supports regional mobility objectives and long-term growth across the Greater Hamilton Area.
Additional information on the project is available on the Metrolinx website
