Egis, a leading international player active in the architecture, construction engineering, consulting and mobility services sectors, has achieved a critical milestone by receiving validation for its near-term and net-zero science-based targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Leading the Global Net-Zero Transition
The greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets set by Egis have been validated and officially approved by the independent Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) on December 2, 2024.
The validation demonstrates Egis’ firm commitment to combating climate change and aligns its operations with the global goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. It represents a decisive step towards achieving sustainable business practices and contributing to the global net-zero transition.
A comprehensive Climate Strategy with ambitious targets
Egis’ ambitious climate strategy involves leveraging innovative solutions for operated infrastructures, optimising efficiency of internal activities, and implementing sustainable practices throughout its value chain. Its targets align with SBTi’s rigorous criteria and the Corporate Net Zero Standard, ensuring that Egis contributes effectively to the global fight against climate change.
Egis’ science-based targets, as validated by SBTi, include:
- Near-Term Goals (by 2033):
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 54.6% from a 2023 base year.
- Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods, services, and capital goods by 61.1% per million EUR of value added within the same timeframe.
- Cut absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel by 32.5%.
- Lower Scope 3 GHG emissions from employee commuting by 61.1% per employee.
- Net-Zero Goal (by 2050):
- Achieve a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions, as well as emissions from business travel, investments, and upstream energy supply chain from a 2023 base year.
- Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions intensity by 97% across key categories, including purchased goods and services, capital goods, use of sold products, and employee commuting.
- Neutralise any residual GHG emissions beyond these reductions.
These ambitious goals reflect Egis’s alignment with the Paris Agreement and its commitment to a 1.5°C trajectory, as validated by the SBTi.
Egis’s decarbonisation strategy has been meticulously developed to decouple the Group’s robust economic growth from GHG emissions. “Growing while decarbonising” underpins the Group’s strategy.
