Egis-operated Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Airport has achieved level 3 of ACI’s2 Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme, reflecting its active efforts to manage and cut carbon emissions. With this achievement, Egis now manages 12 airports that are ACA-accredited.
ACA’s level 3, or “Optimisation” means the airport works with third parties to reduce emissions outside its direct control. At Bergerac, the airport encourages partners like its aviation fuel supplier, World Fuel Services, to lower their carbon footprints. The renewal of its contract with Bergerac Airport has been attached to environmental, social and governance conditions, including purchasing an electric truck.
Since 2017, the airport has cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 36%. A big part of this reduction has come from energy transformations like the use of all-electric ground power units at aircraft stands, LED lighting, solar canopies and power stations. The airport’s commitment to corporate social responsibility includes a biodiversity conservation scheme within its boundaries and donating items seized by security control to local charities.
Within Egis, three-quarters of the airports where the Group is a shareholder and operator are part of the ACA initiative to reduce emissions, with varying levels of progress. Pointe-Noire (Republic of the Congo) is at level 1, whilst Antwerp and Ostend (Belgium) have reached level 2, along with Pau, Brest (France) and Tahiti-Faa’a airports (French Polynesia). Brazzaville (Republic of the Congo) and Beauvais (France) have earned levels 3+ and 4, respectively. Larnaka and Paphos in Cyprus and Abidjan in Ivory Coast are among the top eight per cent of airports worldwide involved in the ACA, having reached the prestigious level 4+ Transition.
